WOOD FIRING

Wood firing results vary considerably, depending on the length of the firing and type of wood used. The ash from the wood, which is high in potassium, melts on the surface of the pot causing many beautiful variations of surface depending on the pot's proximity to the firebox and air flow patterns in the kiln. The longer the firing, the more ash deposited. Firings can range from 12 hours to 5 days, depending on the kiln design and the potter's desired results.
